About Locus Scholarly Journal
Aims & Scope Locus is an online scholarly journal, published by the Open University of the Netherlands. Locus was launched in 1999 as a hard copy journal of the Faculty of Humanities. From 2018 onwards, Locus has developed into an open access e-journal aiming at a wider readership. Locus aspires to be a platform for the dissemination of scholarly research in both an academic and accessible way, and seeks to connect scholarship and society. To achieve those goals, Locus publishes articles across all humanities disciplines, as well as special issues (‘dossiers’) on topical debates in the field. Instructions for Authors Locus welcomes submissions from researchers, seasoned and emerging; professionals in the cultural field are also encouraged and invited to submit. Locus contributions must meet academic standards. They should be based on academic literature and/or empirical data and be well substantiated. Moreover, submissions should be written in clear and accessible language. The target length for an article is 3,000–3,500 words, excluding notes and bibliography. If your submission is longer than this, please contact the editorial board. Submissions should follow The Chicago Manual of Style formatting guidelines for citations and references. An abstract of 75-125 words should also be included, as well as a short bio, up to 125 words. Authors can send their submission as an attachment by e-mail to locus@ou.nl Review policy Articles are subject to editorial review and, at the discretion of the editorial board, to anonymous peer review. Submissions are first reviewed by two members of the editorial board from two different disciplines. Board members have a Ph.D. degree in either history, philosophy, media studies, art history or literary studies. In the case the topic or approach of the submitted manuscript exceeds the expertise of the editorial board members, experts from outside the editorial board are consulted. Editorial comments are returned to the author with a request for revisions. Accepted articles will undergo copy editing. The editors reserve the right not to publish contributions. Editorial Board: Marieke Borren, Martijn van der Burg, Caroline Drieënhuizen, Aldo Kempen, Hanneke Nap and Marieke Winkler. Open access policy Locus is an open access e-journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to users or institutions. Nor does Locus charge fees for publishing an article (Diamond open access). Authors retain the copyright and full publishing rights without restrictions. All articles are published under a Creative Commons license: BY-NC-ND. This means that for any article that is published, the author's name and the publication name must always be mentioned (BY), articles may not be used for commercial purposes (NC) and he text may only be distributed in unaltered form (ND). Permalink In order to ensure that published articles remain accessible in the future, also if the journal should migrate to a different publishing platform, Locus articles receive an Edu.nl permalink, provided by SURFnet, the organization that develops, implements and maintains the Dutch national research and education network.
